“The fifth key to fruitful preaching to the heart is the preacher’s own grasp of
the principle and the reality of grace.

This needs to be set within the multifaceted context of a growing familiarity with
the uses of sacred Scripture, an awareness of the actual condition of our hearers,
and a conscious recognition of the preacher’s task.

But always the melody line of preaching to the heart lies in our own grasp of the
principle of grace.

That is what makes preaching sing.”
