“View and contemplate, with admiration and astonishment, the glory and splendour of Christ and His universal Church, to move your hearts to seek to be one thereof and not left out of this number and gathering up of all things.
Oh, but what will it be at the great day, when Christ will come in His own and His Father’s glory, with all His holy angels, —when Christ, that hath all things in His person, shall appear in His fulness!
And all the holy angels, and saints of the sons of men that have been existent from the beginning of the world to that day, and not one wanting, but that Christ will raise it up at the last day.
And then when all these shall go to heaven, and be ever together, when God shall have all His sons about Him, and His eldest Son in the midst of them, then He will bring forth all His treasures of glory, that shall last, and not be spent to all eternity.”
–Thomas Goodwin, The Works of Thomas Goodwin, Volume 1 (Grand Rapids, MI: Reformation Heritage, 1861/2006), 1: 197-198. Goodwin is commenting on Ephesians 1:10.
